Two children have been injured in Oswego, Illinois, after a car crash led to a vehicle striking them while they were on scooters at a road intersection.

Police say the incident happened around 12:51 p.m. at U.S. Highway 34 and Heritage Drive. Two vehicles collided at the intersection, and one of the vehicles then veered into the area where the children were waiting, hitting them.

A third child on a scooter was also present but was not seriously injured. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, and both injured children were taken for medical treatment.

Authorities confirmed that both drivers involved in the crash have been cited for traffic violations. The eastbound lane of Highway 34 was temporarily closed for several hours before reopening.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances that led to the collision.
